"It is writing that truly rescues, that enables us to reach the shore."

About:

WORD HOUSE is an emerging physical and virtual space, rooted in southeastern Vermont, dedicated to fostering the literary arts. We believe in the radical and radiant power of storytelling and are committed to supporting as many voices as possible find their way to the page. Our intention is to offer year-round classes, mentoring partnerships, retreats and readings, all aimed to empower and enrich the creative, intellectual and artistic lives of a diverse demographic of writers, both locally and afar.

Happenings:

See "WORKSHOPS” to see our current in-person and virtual workshops, and sign up for our mailing list (below) to stay tuned about future offerings. These past years have been hard for many of us, but we are more committed than ever to making WORD HOUSE a space that fosters connection, community, compassion, and creativity.

Values:

We are inspired by mycelium, mushrooms, forests, and theories of mutual flourishing. We believe in community, collaboration, co-creation, and equity. In an ideal world all of our offerings would be free—maybe they will be someday! Until then, we offer a full BIPOC scholarship to all workshops and classes. Life as an artist can be unpredictable and fickle; relationships, connections, and community last forever. May we support one another as we make, imagine, and create. May we nurture healthy relationships, human and non-human. May we be good stewards; bring more beauty into the world; and buoy one another along the way.

Fiscal Sponsorship:

Word House LLC has fiscal sponsorship from THE MARLBORO FOUNDATION, a 501c3 non-profit. The Marlboro Foundation supports educational spaces, events, and programs based in Marlboro, Vermont and the surrounding bioregion, thereby nurturing resilient creative communities that are responsive to the challenges and opportunities of our time and place. The Foundation is inspired by the ethos of Marlboro College, 1946-2020.
